The USMNT will compete in the World Cup for the 11th time in their history, after failing to qualify for the 2018 edition in Russia.

Gregg Berhalter and his team will be anxious to make up for that performance by going far in Qatar, and they certainly have the talent to do so. Christian Pulisic, Gio Reyna, and Weston McKennie were obvious choices, but Berhalter's presentation also included some surprises.

Goalkeeper

Zack Steffen was surprisingly left out, clearing the way for Matt Turner to take the stage. Berhalter had preferred Manchester City's keeper, who is presently on loan at Middlesbrough, but injury issues allowed Arsenal's summer signing to take his place.

Sean Johnson and Ethan Horvath will serve as backups.

Defenders
 Aaron Long

While Miles Robinson is out with an injury, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Aaron Long, and Walker Zimmerman are excellent contenders to fill in at center-back in Qatar.

Berhalter left experienced defender John Brooks off the roster and he was not selected. Sergino Dest appears to be a lock to start out wide, with his move from Barcelona to Milan assisting him in regaining match fitness after struggling for game time at Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, Sam Vines and Chris Richards have been ruled out of the event due to injuries.

Midfielders

Yunus Musah, Weston McKennie, Brendan Aaronson, and Tyler Adams are the stars of Berhalter's World Cup midfield, with some decent depth behind them.

Luca de la Torre and Kellyn Acosta, in particular.

Attackers

Even though Chelsea star Pulisic has struggled at club level, the dynamic forward is slated to lead the USMNT assault at the World Cup in Qatar.

Gio Reyna will provide extra inventiveness if he stays fit, with the BVB wonderkid demonstrating in recent weeks that he's back to his old self after overcoming a series of injury issues.

As the USMNT has several of options in attack, Tim Weah and Brenden Aaronson are also potential to start out wide, but the nation has designated Aaronson as a midfielder in their team announcement. The most significant omissions were Ricardo Pepi and Jordan Pefok.
