Lucky11 | T20 World Cup: Pakistan, Bangladesh Big Clash

While Bangladesh had little to play for and Pakistan had already secured their place in the tri-series final against New Zealand, both teams were eager to showcase their skills just days before the T20 World Cup in Australia got underway. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, two seasoned openers, put on their ninth partnership of 100 runs or more in T20I cricket, which came as no surprise as they skillfully set the stage for the successful run chase.

While Rizwan (69 off 56) maintained his composure the entire time and finally succumbed to Soumya Sarkar in the penultimate over after giving his team a commanding position, Babar (55 off 40 balls) was the early aggressor.

When it came time for Pakistan to win by seven wickets, it was left to all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz (45 off 20), who blasted Mohammad Saifuddin to the boundary on the second-to-last ball of the game.

Bangladesh's situation is unchanged.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first at Hagley Oval, Bangladesh amassed a decent total of 173/6 thanks in large part to the brilliant half-centuries scored by skipper Shakib Al Hasan (68) and opener Litton Das (69), who also celebrated his 28th birthday in style.

The biggest problem was that no other batsman scored more than 12 runs, with Das and Shakib scoring 137 runs from 84 balls between them and the rest of their lineup scoring just 31 runs from the final six overs.

When he was ejected in the 19th over, Shakib was aware that he had left a few runs unfinished, and he accepted some of the blame.

But when the T20 World Cup begins next week, Bangladesh will need some new stars to step up because they have been too dependent on players like Das and Shakib for years.

Bangladesh lost the match despite half-centuries from Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan.

Positive bowling statistics for Pakistan

While Nawaz stole the show with his bat, the left arm struggled with the ball in hand, allowing 37 runs to be scored from three expensive overs as Das and Shakib found a liking to his slow spinners.

Instead, the ball was left in the hands of Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim (2/33) who both excelled, with the former particularly brilliant as he took two wickets and only allowed 27 runs to be scored from his four overs.

Naseem bowled a four-over spell in which he produced 12 dot balls. He appears to have fully recovered from his illness and is ready to play at his peak at the T20 World Cup.
